April: Upcoming Events

We have two classes and one open workshop night scheduled for the month of April.

Introduction to Arduino Workshop

Are you curious as to how you can use an Arduino in your electronic projects? Come to the class on April 20 and learn how to control LEDs and simple motors using an Arduino.

Arduino development boards are used to power IoT devices, 3D printers and many other new technologies. They can also be used to give new life to old toys and even model train systems.

Lathe Class

On April 27 a local craftsman and duck call maker will teach us the basics of wood turning. We will learn lathe safety, tool setup and everything you need to know in choosing your first lathe. By the end of class each person will get some time to work a piece of wood and become comfortable using this popular tool.

Open Shop Night: April 23

Each month on the 3rd Tuesday we have an open time when anyone is welcome to come hang out and work on a project. The shop will be open from 7p to 9p for you to check out what is going on with the group. Every month we have new people show up during this open time. Make this the month you are our first-time guest.

March: Upcoming Events

March: Upcoming Events

For the month of March we have classes most weeks available for you. Most classes this month will be from 9 to 11 on Saturday mornings.

The public is welcome to stop by any time the shop is open for a class. This is your chance to get introduced to other makers in our community and find out what is going on at Morristown Makers.

March 2: Basic 3D Modeling

Again the 3D modeling class is available. This is for those who would like to get into 3D modeling but need a help getting started. We are using the free online tool called Tinkercad for the class. This tool is simple enough to get a handle on in a 2-hour class, but yet still powerful enough to some amazing modeling.

March 9: Pallet Wood Blanket Ladder

Blanket Ladder Class

Several people enjoyed building the pallet wood blanket ladder in the month of February. Join us on March 9 for a great opportunity to build this decorative piece that you can use to display your quilts and keep them handy for use on those cold nights.

March 12: Open Shop

From 7p to 9p on Tuesday March 12 the shop will be open for you to stop by and join us for a time of building, tinkering and talking. This is an extra open shop time this month. If you don’t have a project to work on, at least stop in and see what we are all about.

March 16: Hexagonal Shelf

Who couldn’t use another shelf in their house? Here’s your chance to build a hexagonal shelf. After this class you will have a shelf you can proudly display even if you don’t have anything special to put on it. Though a nice jar of honey would feel perfectly at home in this beehive-inspired shelf.

This class will be held from 10-12 in the morning.

March 23: Pallet Wood Bunny

Its official..the groundhog did NOT see his shadow. But that isn’t stopping us from “SPRING-ING” into Easter festivities. Join us for a Saturday morning where we will be creating a pallet wood bunny to put on display this Easter! We can’t wait to see your happy faces on Saturday morning.

March 26: Open Shop

Join us on Tuesday the 26th for our monthly Open Shop night from 7 to 9. This is a time where you can bring in your project and work on it while having other makers around to chat with. Maybe you need help figuring out how to do something in your project; bring it in and see if someone in the community can help you get it closer to completion.

Open Shop Night: February 26

The space will be open from 7 to 9 PM on Tuesday, February 26. This will be a monthly time that anyone can come to work on, or get help with, a project. You don’t have to be a member to take advantage of this community event.

You can work on a project or show off something you are working on. This is a casual time of getting to know other makers and seeing what’s coming up at Morristown Makers.

We will do this once a month on the 4th Tuesday. There may be other times in the month when we host special events. Keep up to date by checking out our calendar.

February 9 Meet & Greet Results

We had a good turnout for the second Meet & Greet event at Morristown Makers. Several people stopped by to find out what we are doing at the space. It was exciting to have most everyone stay more than an hour (and some more than 2!).

During the day we worked on a few different projects in between eating popcorn and chatting with visitors. Two people put together a demo piece for the pallet wood blanket ladder class. A couple worked on a rustic barn wood fireplace mantle.

Enjoy a playful timelapse video of the day.

The next events we have scheduled are classes for the next two weekends. On February 15 and 16 there will be a class on basic 3D modeling using Tinkercad. The following weekend (February 22 and 23) we will be teaching how to build a blanket ladder using reclaimed pallet wood.

For both of these classes you only need to attend either the Friday night session or the Saturday morning session. The same thing will be taught on Saturday as was taught the night before. Pick one of the two class sessions and join us for an upcoming class at 50% off for this month.

Please register to reserve your spot in the class.

Second Meet & Greet

Join us Saturday morning February 9 for our second meet and greet event. This is a time to hang out with like-minded creators and share your ideas while being inspired by others.

This gives you a chance to see what Morristown Makers is all about. We also have a coupon for 50% off of a future class that you can pick up on Saturday. Speaking of classes, all our classes in the month of February are 50% off.

Drop In

This is a drop-in type event. No need to stay the entire time. However, you are certainly welcome to do so. Bring a project with you that you want to show off or get some help on. We will have people skilled in woodworking, Arduinos, Raspberry Pis, home decor and 3D printing at the shop that morning.

Details

We will meet at the Morristown Makers shop near Panther Creek Rd. and 11E.

Time is 9a to 1p. If you end up staying the whole time and need something to eat, there will be snacks available. The free popcorn may not fill you up, but you can enjoy the process while trying.

First Meet & Greet a Success!

First Meet & Greet a Success!

Friday night, February 1, Morristown Makers had our first public event. It was well attended and we met some wonderfully passionate people in the community. Thank you to everyone who came!

3D Printer and Game Cabinet

We showed off some of our projects and actually worked on a few of them when we weren’t talking. The 3D printer was cranking away all evening making various things to give away to whomever was standing there at the time it finished. There were examples of pallet wood crafting with some beautiful vinyl cut lettering. A small group was engaged in sewing and origami for the entire 4 hour event. And before the night was over, a piano bench was repaired and ready to go back into service.

We got feedback from the public that was very helpful. We also talked about our upcoming classes on building a pallet wood blanket ladder and doing 3D design.

We had such a great time that we are doing this meet and greet again on Saturday morning February 9. If you missed our first event, or want to join us again, we will be open from 9a to 1p that Saturday.

Meet and Greet

Join us Friday February 1 for an introduction into our new makerspace in the Morristown area.
